Sluggy Ranks - My Time

Sluggy Ranks came around on the dance hall scene about 1984 and did his first recording for Jah Life in 1985 with "True Sound". After doing another single called "Bibble", he moved on to Music Masters on the Witty label. On this label, he recorded his first hit single "95% Black" that rocketed him into the dance hall circle firmly. He recorded his first album for Park Heights Records, called "Settle Sluggy. His second album he recorded for Music Master was "Just Call Sluggy".
In 1990 Sluggy had his biggest achievement when winning the title of "Best Reggae Vocalist" in the US. Also that year Sluggy had his biggest hit "My Time" on the Shelly Records label.

Buju Banton - Mr Mention

Produced by Donovan Germain & Dave Kelly at Penthouse studio in 1992.

Mr. Mention is simply a term for someone who is being mentioned a lot, which young Buju Banton certainly was, even before making public his views about other people's sexual proclivities. His firs album for Germain fully explains why he was such a talking point in the reggae world: this is the sharpest, most confident deejay since Shabba's. Largely a collection of his first hits - including "Love Me Browning", "Batty Rider", "Woman No Fret" - this set alone would have ensured a lasting reputation.

Johnny P - P Is For Perfect

Johnny P in the early 90s. Produced by Harold McLarty 'Mr. Biggs', rhythms by Firehous Crew.

"Orvill Morgan ("Johnny P") mixed his material between slack tunes such as "Give Man Bun" and "Girls Guide," decent spirituals and political compositions on this set. But dancehall dominated the session, featuring the suggestive, often vulgar fare that has dominated this decade's menu in that arena. P is a competent performer, no great or singular stylist, but able to communicate his messages with authority regardless of context. There was nothing here you couldn't get elsewhere, but it was done professionally and with exuberance."
