Various Artists - Ram Jam Master (1987)

One of the best riddims ever made (and one of my personal all-time favs), is the wonderful 'Jah Send Me Come/Darker Shade Of Black' riddim from 1987. Harmodio released a showcase album of it, which is now a true collector's item. Good news: the majority of the album is included here, the bad news: 1 track (General Webb's 'Proud A Mi Island') and Noel Davy's two versions are missing. I tried to fill the gaps with Harry J's lick on the riddim, a great threesome vocal track by Welton Irie, Ashman and Yellowman, plus another instrumental version of 'Jah Send Me Come'.

Lovindeer - Octapussy

X-rated lyrics, X-rated cover.... no not shabba, beenie or bounty, it's Lovindeer with the Octapussy album on the tsoj label. He became well re-nowned for his slackness lyrics through the 80's whilst releasing around 14 albums from 1984-1990

Peter Metro - The D.J. Don (1986)

This is the rarely mentioned second LP released by Peter Metro in 1986 on the Black Solidarity label. Produced by Ossie Thomas / Philip Morgan. A really tuff album!

Dance Hall Vibes Vol. 1, 2, 3

Jah Pasquerel left me these treasures for the blog. The entire Dance Hall Vibes series on World Enterprise records, produced by Striker Lee in 1986.

Michigan & Smiley - Reality Must Rule Again

Papa Michigan (born Anthony Fairclough) and General Smiley (born Erroll Bennett) were among the first dual-toasters on the first wave of Dancehall style in Jamaica. Beginning in the late 1970s while still in school, the humorous duo (Smiley got his name because he never smiles - not on this pic) scored immediately with "Rub a Dub Style" and a toasted Real Rock version named "Nice up the Dance".

Icho Candy

This is a compilation of some of Icho Candy's greatest hits. Thanks to Stig for this contribution !

Icho Candy (b. Winston Evans) is a singer who's vocal style is greatly inspired by Horace Andy. His first single was the immensely popular »Captain Selassie I« 7" (Jwyanza, 1981) produced by Delroy Standbury. The single was also released on 12" on Gibbs label (with production credits to Joe Gibbs). He also released the song »I Remember« on Jwyanza either the same year or the year after but the single was erroneously credited to General Plough. The material that he recorded for D. Standbury was collected with songs by other artists such as Brigadier Jerry, Barry Brown, Danny Dread and released on a various artists album on Standbury's own label Jwyanza - the album simply being called Jwyanza Various Artists.

In '87 Icho recorded for Augustus Pablo releasing the 7" single »Babylon« (Rockers, 1987). The same year he also recorded for King Culture in Canada with the song »Hold Tight« being included on the various artists album 'Revenge Of The General'. It wasn't until 1993 he saw the release of his first solo album Glory To The King (1993, Jah Shaka), produced by Jah Shaka. He released a second album in '98 - Rise Up. He has also got two unreleased albums one for Delroy Witters Creation label. Recorded around the time that Delroy released Colourman's album 'Kick Up Rumpus'.

The late and great Tero Kaski recorded an album with Icho Candy for his newly formed Black Star label. This session took place in 1990 at Penthouse studio with Ruddy Thomas engineering. The rhythms were built by the Massive Crew in Finland.

Icho Candy is supposedly the brother of singer Prince Junior.
