what a strange release - is that some kind of bootleg? i knew the rush dem riddim (which is part of this release, the other tracks sound very similar too) was made by rhythem track, but this one? any info is greatly appreciated.

just checked my collection, i have 2 versions of the rush dem: one out of rhythem track, which has the title tune too, and the other one by steelie & clevie that sounds like the version on this sampler...

I am Rebecca Smith, Executive Producer, of Torture Vol. 1. It is on my label, Becca International. It is not a bootleg, unless it has been re-released on cd. It was recorded in analog, I put out this collection on vinyl, and had distribution by Sonic Sounds. I lived in Kingston in 1991. The reason there are similar versions of Shaggy Wonder"s song (aka Horace Henry, and new dj name Absolute), is because Shaggy Wonder is greedy and dishonest. The truth is, one night in Ocho Rios, as we all (myself, Shaggy, Brown and Frisky) got out of a cab we took from Kingston, Shaggy forgot to get the master tapes out of the car ! We had studio time at Grove, so I paid Barry O"Hare to lay down a riddem. I was not familier with "Rush Dem", and paid Shaggy to record a supposedly new song, which is "Blackheart Against The World." Shaggy Wonder has a cool voice, but his deceitful ways have kept his career from taking off. I have been listening to reggae since I was 15, and started singing and djing when I moved to California from Kansas in 1985. I am Cherokee with blue eyes, and being a female, I have always been amazed how the Jamaican people have embraced me and artists and producers have helped me on my dancehall journey !
